Weekly Tip

Getting this look: Your bedding should be your focal point, so pick the bedding you love most and pull colors out from it. Pick one strong color (like the black in this photo) to draw the eye in all different places and at the same time create a consistent flow throughout the room.

When thinking of Thanksgiving we are reminded of that grand autumn harvest with the Pilgrims and Indians.
Our Homes should feel as warm and welcoming as that first Thanksgiving in 1621.
Use warm colors and and bring some of the outdoors inside.
Table center pieces are perhaps the best Thanksgiving decoration you can do for your home.
Use anything that speaks of richness and warmth, like candles and gourds.
Find things in nature to dress up your home like this vase of richly colored weeds.
And if you have a chandelier, dress it up for added appeal.
Display furniture that looks as if it could have been from that time period and remember homemade things such as quilts will add to the feels of this wonderful season.
And last but not least, Harvest Wreaths speak volumes about your Thanksgiving decor.

Tip of the Week -Area Rugs

When using area rugs I have some simple tips to help you get the right look!
First, make sure you have a large enough rug to fit the furniture you are planning on using. Second, when placing your furniture upon your area rug, pretend the rug is an island.  As seen in this picture, none of the furniture lies half on or half off the area rug. Instead it all fits comfortably on the "island". Area rugs are great for creating a defined space in any room.
Lastly, when choosing your area or accent rug, never let it dominate the rest of the room. The colors and patterns should simply add to your room instead of becoming the focal point. ~Meg

Halloween Starts Here!

It's no secret that any decorator loves the holidays! Just another excuse to decorate in a new way. At the moment, Fall is my favorite time of the year. Partly because of crisp cool air, sweaters, hot cider and colorful falling leaves. But lets be honest, the real reason is obviously Halloween!!

Simple ways to get the creepy, but not icky, look of Halloween are
                                as simple as 1,2,3:
1- Mesh Webs      Put them on EVERYTHING!
They can be found everywhere, but thanks to the greatest mother-in-law in the world, I have several from Dollar Tree. So check the dollar stores first, or you will be spending between $3-$6 for one.
                                                         2- Gourds and Pumpkins
                                                         and 3- Corn Stalks
Finding unique containers to place your stalks in, like this old milk can, will add loads of
Anything you add to these simple items are just added candy to the eye!
If all else fails start spray painting items black!! Happy Haunting!!! ~Meg

Weekly Tip

Bedding becomes more cozy with more texture. Nothing needs to match perfectly, but having one pillow or quilt that encompasses the majority of colors will pull everything together nicely! ~Meg

Weekly Tip -Pillows Pillows Pillows

It doesn't get much sadder, pillows you love and spent hard earned money on, flattened and deformed.
But don't despair! Problem solved!! Lose the foam insert. Always buy pillows with down or feather inserts. With one simple fluff they look perfect and will last you a life time.
Even long lumbar pillows will never look droopy again.
If you absolutely love a pillow with a foam insert and want to replace it go to my favorite pillow website:
You will be able to custom make any width and length for very inexpensive! Thanks for dropping in, ~Meg

*Weekly Tip*

Having trouble finding space in your bathroom for storage? Don't use minimal bathroom storage on towels, instead try displaying your towels on a wine rack like this one. Fresh towels and linens on display just add to the charm of the bathroom. After using a towel from your decorative rack, the bottom rack can serve as a drying hook! ~Meg

*Weekly Tip*

 Use it!
When I found my beautifully bleached, New Zealand, lamb's wool,  I put it on the back of my leather couch. After admiring it's beauty I warned everyone in my family not to touch it, or else! Pretty soon I found my self stressing when the kids would play by it. After all, it could get dirty. With time my resolve wore thin and my daughter Layla started using it on the floor for tea parties, reading to her stuffed animals and  falling asleep on while waiting for her mother to shut down the computer.
Now, I love seeing her use it. Life is more at ease when we put less worth on our possessions.
Start making everything in your home used and enjoyed! ~Meg

What is Shabby Chic?

Shabby Chic is no particular style, but rather a balance of elegant things. Adding old and worn, shiny silver accessories with painted wooden tables, soft throw rugs with rough old lace.
It is a comfortable decorating style with a look that uses vintage accessories, pastels, and comfortable furniture.  Think old lace tablecloths,  soft floral fabrics, light painted furniture, wrought iron curtain rods with filmy sheer curtains, and colorful fresh flowers!
To see one of my Shabby Chic room transformations see my daughter Layla's room. ~Meg

Don't throw away your out dated table or chairs. With a splash of color and stain finish, your kitchen will be colorful and exciting! Just look what I did with my sister Amy's tired, old table and chairs!! ~Meg
